Hotel Childcare
If you’re looking ahead for childcare options while you’re at the conference, some local hotels have babysitting options. Check out this local list of family-friendly hotels or browse the list of hotels that partner with White House Nannies for hotel babysitting services.
Local Summer Camps
There are numerous summer camps happening in the greater DC metropolitan area that you can also sign your children up for. We recommend starting with this list of summer camps compiled by Arlington County; our conference is happening during their “session 8” for which they have a variety of summer camp options. You can also check out GMU’s summer camp offerings by age or the YMCA Arlington camps (also week 8) that run from 8/5 to 8/9.
If none of those options are working for you, there are good summaries of other local summer camp options available through kid-centered websites such as Capitol Hill Kid, Kids Out And About DC, and Mommy Poppins.
Kid-Friendly Museums and Activities
Where to start? There are so many kid-friendly museums and activities in downtown DC! Some of our favorites are listed below and we’ll keep updating it as we get closer to the conference.
- International Spy Museum
- Museum of Natural History
- National Air & Space Museum
- National Children’s Museum
- National Zoo
Looking for something closer to the conference hotel? Get your ice cream flash frozen at Nicecream or check out Gravelly Point Park where you can also watch planes take off and land near the end of a runway at Reagan National Airport. More ideas–from arcades and spraygrounds to museums and hiking trails–can be found in Arlington’s guide to child-friendly activities in Arlington, VA.
